Because my horse had huge lumps on her back from where the saddle didn't fit her properly and it was uncomfortable for her to ride so thats why she threw me off. Just make sure that your horse is fine before you ride him/her.
And anyway, you know the saying "practice makes perfect!".
take care xxx

i have been riding all my life, i recommend as well bareback but if ur riding in a stable for lessons then the instructor cant allow it most likely. i.e insurance etc. however, there is a very awesome trick here u can apply as a leg aid while riding in full swing, it can be used for trotting, cantering.
take two twigs half the length of ur arm, decent in width not vey thick mind u but not too thin either. and place them between ur calves , in the area wehere u apply the most pressure to a) keep ur balance b) and where u have to grip the horse as u trot or canter. as u canter etc u must keep these leg aids always intact, keeping to remember to sit tall in the saddle with shoulders squared and toes upward and forward.
if u lose these twigs even one its because u were bouncing round in the saddle and u were not being mindful of trying to stay quioet in the saddle and hence on the horse. but by keeping part of ur concentration on trying to keep these aids between urself and the horse, if ur cantering etc and the aids stay in, it will indicate ur keeping a decent grip at all times, sitting deep and tall etc. this worked well
in fact, so well for me i can gallop bareback on a horse and not bounce all over the place hence staying on top of the horse.and also do so without reins, hands free. its great to see ur question was permitted on the site. if u have any other questions regarding horses and other topics message me any time. always here to " lend an aid". ling

A good canter set requires you to relax and keep your leg as long as possible. Your instincts tell you to draw your legs up to balance but all that does is lift your bum out of the saddle and makes things worse. You need to sit deep and tall, keep your leg long and your calfs on the horses girth.
The best way to learn is bareback(no saddle) but most riding schools arent insured for it. Hope this helps Sx

It's a good few years since I rode a horse.
I think the advice that the bishop gave the actress applies to cantering: just grip with your thighs and go with the motion...
