im having brostrom repair done on my ankle after christmas. has anyone had this done?

ive never had an operation before and i dont have a clue what to expect. ive been told she will find where the ligament is torn, roughen the bone, pin the ligament back to the bone, tighten it then staple my ankle back together.

i should be in cast for 4 weeks, then a walker, then an ankle brace.

i love my sport and i wont be able to do any for about 6months. how am i going to cope?

also, at school there are lots of steps, are steps easy with crutches? there are lifts but i am chlostrophobic :S

I haven't had that specific operation but I had surgery before and it's nothing to worry about. They put you to sleep and when you wake up it's done, that's it. You will feel tired and sore for a few days after but nothing major.

The recovery from what you've to get done is a long time. I've never been out of action that long. But I'd do what most people do that are, watch movies, talk online, read books, start playing video games if you don't already and remember you can still go places and hang out and do stuff but you won't be able to play sports for a while. That's pretty much the only drawback as far as boredom goes. You can do pretty much all the same things as now it just requires a little bit more effort.

As for being claustrophobic, lifts don't take that long at all, so just sing a song to yourself or perform another mental task to occupy your mind for the 30-40 seconds it takes to move.
