This year, I've had several GCSE's that i'm taking a year early, and have felt immensely stressed. Has anyone got any tips for how to cope next year, when I've got 12 exams? Or how do you deal with stress?

Hey,

As a university student, I know how stressful exam time can be!!!

But throughout my many years of study, ive found the following tips help make exam time a bit easier:-

-Time Management- have a plan of what you will be doing when. Have a monthly calendar and put in when each exam is on and when you have classes and any other commitments. Then have a weekly planner and write in things such as homework and what times you plan to study. Then have a daily list of things to do and write down everything you have todo that day. By being organised you will be more prepared for your exams and ensure your chances at succeeding.

-Prepare in advance- dont study at the last minute, it honestly doesnt work contrary to popular belief. So start studying well before your exams. What I do, is after each class I make a summary sheet about the class and what i learnt, that way, when it comes to exam time, i just read the summary sheets rather then all my notes and textbooks which are full of words.

-Understand the work- dont memorise- i think the biggest mistake many people, including myself, used to make, is trying to memorise everything! it was impossible. the key is to, when learing the work, aim to understand it, not memorise sentences. if you understand the work, it will just come to you when you are asked questions.

-Rest - the night before exams, rest! Dont cram in your study it doesnt work. Get a good nights sleep.

-Reward yourself- to help motivation to study, tell yourself that after say 2 hours of study, you will reward yourself with some chocolate...or whatever really. reward yourself for working hard.

-Stress relievers- i find exercise helps. or even just talking about it. you have to let the stress out, so find a way that works for you.

And just remember, as long as you try your hardest, then thats all you can do!! goodluck!!

As a mum of three daughters (aged 21,17 and14) i have hopefully helped them through their exams and revision. I would suggest that you take lots of time to revise, do not try to do it all at the last moment and if you are lucky enough to have someone who will help you with some revision then perhaps they could take a few minutes in the evening to test you. Dont forget to eat properly, take time out for some fun and remember if you do not get the expected results it is not the end of the world,(and there is always re-takes!) Just be as prepared as you can be, talk to friends and family about how you are feeling. Good luck, 12 exams is really impressive, so i am sure you do not need luck.

Next year make sure you do all the work as you go along so as not to have to cram it all in the last minute.

When it comes to near the exams, make a note of when each exam is and a timetable of when you will revise for each.

There are websites about exam stress. Read up about it well ahead and then you can plan better.

Make sure you don't study too much, that you get relaxation for your mind in between. Exercise is good for reducing stress, as is talking to others. The other students will probably feel the same and you can share ideas about it.

Good luck.

I've been through EXACTLY the same situation as you, and unfortunately you just have to get down to it. At the end of them, you can relax so much and feel happy that you've done them. In the mean time, frequent breaks are really useful. Work for 20 minutes (this is how long it takes until the human brain usually gets distracted), take a 10 minute time out or even 5, then get back to it. Baths always help, and writing out timetables of what you need to get done (be realistic though) can also guide you through them. Good luck, don't panic and get plenty of sleep aswell. xxxx
