Don't know how long its been since you and he broke up, but if only a short time you probably shouldn't be dating anyone else at the moment. The new bf sounds like a "rebound" and not fair to date him on that basis.
Not fair to yourself, either, because you need time to grieve and to see what you can learn from being involved with your ex - clearly, from what you said, you allowed yourself to get too emotionally attached to him, and he didn't feel the same.
Just let your ex be part of your past history now - because he IS - and think about the new guy and whether you want to continue with him right now.
