For women, is there a difference between having an orgasm and cumming?

Question - (1 January 2011) 1 Answers - (Newest, 1 January 2011)
A male United States age 51-59, anonymous writes:

My girlfriend says she has "orgasms", but she also says she "cums". English is not her native language, I'm not sure if she knows what the two terms mean.

The way she describes it, what she calls an "orgasm" is just that, a strong feeling of intense pleasure that lasts a few seconds. She says she can have several of these.

Her description of "cumming" is that it's a big buildup of tension in her body, and she then "blows it all out". As I understand it, once she "blows it all out" she's done, and doesn't have more than one of these. This is apparently a relatively rare event that requires a lot of mental buildup over a long period of time, and she has to be in good mental state with no distractions, etc. It is apparently in an entirely different category than a normal "orgasm" which she can achieve relatively easily.

From her description, it sounds to me that "cumming" and "blowing it all out" is a huge orgasm of some sort.

But, from the way she describes it, I'm not entirely sure that what she calls an "orgasm" is actually an orgasm. Perhaps it's just a relatively minor peak of excitement?

Do any of the women have any idea what my girlfriend is experiencing when she "orgasms" and when she "cums"/"blows it all out"?

A reader, anonymous, writes (1 January 2011):

all sounds odd to me.

in terms of language, the two terms she is using both mean 'orgasm'.

in terms of what she experiences, maybe she is describing the difference between a clitoral orgasm (short/sharp/sweet) and a vaginal orgasm (longer build up, longer duration, sense of deeper experience, more complete, longer plateau phase and climb down). and yes, clitoral orgasms are easy and quick, and vaginal orgasms really need penetration and the full monty generally, so aren't so 'easy' to achieve, but actually, it is quite possible to have them a lot of the time, if you are in synch with yr boyfriend.

so maybe that is it. either way, she is describing her experiences to you, which is good. and having them, which is also good!
