This sounds a bit wierd. Perhaps he is pulling too far outward, and he is falling out? Try having him shorten his thrusts. Also make sure he is completely aroused and his penis is erect when he inserts it inside you.

When you say it wont stay in what do you mean exactly, it sounds like he is withdrawing from you too much and so you need to just practice, as long as his penis stays hard, you stay wet and relaxed and you get it in first time you will with practice be fine.
Watch videos (sex education ones!!) and read books like the joy of sex.
When you have sex it is an up and down motion but he does not fully withdraw from you and you squeeze your viginal muscles to keep him inside, he takes it slow and gets faster the more you get near to orgasm.
Practice makes perfect and experimentation with positions etc will only enhance what you are already doing naturally.
