Hi there, i just wanted your advice on a matter pls,

i had unprotected sex with my bf today, he ejaculated inside me for the first time and i know i have a high chance of becoming pregnant.

However, for for 2years now Ive had a 'mirena'. That thing you can have put inside you (female) that acts as contraception, and i was wondering how safe those are? ie how much protection they offer.

Thank you very much 4 any answers received x

I suppose if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. Astrid's answer would not pass the first semester of Contraception 101. Agony aunts - please if you do not know what you are talking about, stay shtum - bad information is far worse than no information when vulnerable people are involved.

1) IUDs (not DIUs) do not cause uterine cancer

2) IUDs are amongst the most reliable forms of contraception, though having a coil for two years may warrant a check that is still there by feeling for the strands or asking your GP to do so.

3) IUDs do not protect against STDs, so are most appropriate in a long term relationship with a trusted partner.

4) Speak to your family-planning clinic soon (tomorrow) - you need a little more information that you will get here.

Kind regards

Astrid agony auntMy mon hada one and it works though she suffered uterous cancer and she says it was maybe caused by problems caused by these resort called DIU,similar to mirena, as it had moved and cause some injure which became an infection, I would recommend condoms or the pill take care of stdts if yu have read about uterous cancer vaccination its is sometimes caused by infections transmitted sexually by men and which can cause great trouble in time, I htink you should show self respect and take care of your body you only have one and if this guy loves you he should understand
