The Palestinians (Muslims)took over the area, thousands of years ago, as a people moved around. The Jews were badly treated in Europe, they wanted a home of their own, and were given their home in Israel. Unfortunately, that's where the Palestinians were living. A big war, 1957, lost by the Palestinians, a total take over of their previous land, agreements made and broken. Everybody wants to leave in the same space, because for Muslims and Jews, who actually share some of the same prophets, holy sites, and stories, the area is home, but it also the land that these two people call holy. It's very, very hard to understand, because like with most fights, people have their own opinion and stories. Israel has a nuclear bomb, Palestine has none. Hamas is practises terrorism and bombs Israel, but Hamas has been democratically elected by the Palestine people. Palestine has lost the most land, and suffers from the most dead. Israel is being attacked by Hamas, and has built a wall trying to keep the Palestinians out. The current fighting is another attempt by Israel to keep itself safe. It's difficult to understanding these things because everybody has taken sides. Governments around the world are working hard to find a solution. Cyprus was divided and had an ongoing battle between Muslims and Catholics, they are finding peace. Northern Ireland, UK, had a war going for hundreds of years between Catholics and Protestants, again they managed to make peace. Wars are never about religion, they just use religion as a tool. They are about land, power, and a fight for scarce resources. Read more articles from all different type of people, friends of Israel, people who hate Israel, and it will become more understandable for you. The best websites are ones that try to explain the current conflict to children and teenagers, because then they have to be fair.

Sometimes you could just swear they like fighting.

For an in-depth explanation, see: http://www.awesomelibrary.org/MiddleEastConflict.html
After World War II, the United Nations gave land to the Jewish people of the world so they could live together in peace. This land, Israel, includes holy places for the Jewish religion and is surrounded by Muslim countries. Palestinian Muslims lived on the land at the time that the United Nations gave it to the Jewish people.
Portions of the land given to the Jewish people, or taken over by them when they won wars against Arab states, are also holy for Muslims. Certain portions of Jerusalem controlled by Israel, called "East Jerusalem," are very important to Muslims. For religious reasons, Palestinian Muslims believe that they must gain control of East Jerusalem as part of any lasting peace settlement.
Further, Palestinians view themselves as living in an occupied nation, where invaders (Israelis) have placed them under military rule. To fight back, Palestinians have built a terrorist network to attack innocent Israeli civilians. Israelis feel they must continue to control Palestinians with military force to protect themselves against more terrorist attacks.

If you want to know more about it, don't watch T.V. those they call terrorist are actually the locals that want to protect their land.
