Hi All, I'm wondering what is the proper etiquitte regarding txt messages. If you send a text to someone saying for instance,Hi just sending you theses hugs and kisses because i'm thinking of you and i care ect should you expect a reply or not .

I didn't send the message expecting a reply but when i thought about it i thought a thanks and maybe some return xxoo would have felt nice.am i wrong to have expected a reply i'm not sure. thanks

A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 July 2009):

are u dating the person u sent it to? if u are then yes a reply would be good! if its a close friend then yes a reply would be good too, i mean a text with hug and kiss at the end would indicate that the sender is doing s/thing nice by sending the hug. Some sort of reply would be good...a text saying "thanks", to say thanks for the text u sent would be a nice thing to do, its what id do, but unfortunately some ppl are very self absorbed with theor own crap and dont think about how others feel, or maybe the person u sent it to is bust and hasnt had a chance to reply?

Texting can lead to all sorts of problems and misunderstandings. The recipient may have been too busy to reply immediately - work etc. - and when they could reply, too much time may have elapsed/ lost the moment etc.

Generally, yes - they should have replied but you don't know the circumstances.

And anyway - since when did Aussies worry about etiquette?(sorry - couldn't resist!)

Yeah usually that would merit a response of some kind, but I wouldn't read too much into if there wasn't one. I sometimes don't respond to those when my boyfriend sends them because I'm just preoccupied, but I still love him just the same.
