Dreams of things that haven't happened

Question - (19 March 2012) 2 Answers - (Newest, 19 March 2012)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I keep having dreams that I had a son or daughter in high school (but most of the time it's a boy) and gave him/her up for adoption. And then I forget I even had him/her.

For example, last night in my dream, I was with friends and we were all sharing secrets. Mine was, "I had a son in high school." But the moment I said it, I realized it wasn't true. I had had no memory of giving birth or even being pregnant. This is like the sixth or seventh time already. Honestly, I've lost count. Are my dreams trying to tell me something?

Honeypie agony auntThat you have a big fear of getting pregnant right now? Because you wouldn't be able to keep the baby financially?Perhaps? Or did you watch an episode of Teen-Mom or something?

Or it could have nothing to do really with babies/children but problems that keep popping up. Since this is a recurring dream are there other things in your life that keeps coming back? Problems with family, friends, school?

No mother forgets giving birth - trust me on that.

Dreams are odd. They are like your own movie going on at night, sometimes you get a horror, sometimes a romance.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (19 March 2012):

chigirl agony auntRepetitive dreams are trying to tell you something. They keep coming back until you have solved the real life situation that causes the dream.

This particular dream is not easy to interpret. But, children in general are often interpreted as a younger version of you, your innocence, or the future. 3 different meanings that completely changes the message of the dream. There is also the possibility of this child symbolizing something else to you, because dreams are always personal.

Does this boy remind you of someone?

At a deep level of dreams, our "alter ego" is of the other gender. If you are a female your alter ego will be male. So this could be the reason why the child is often a boy. If so, this child symbolizes something about yourself.

Maybe the dream is telling you that you need to take a few steps back to find yourself again, as you "forgot" you even had this child. If this child is in fact YOU, then you have forgotten a part of yourself. This part, being in the symbol of a child, might be something you need to care for and nurture and make grow. So, perhaps a side of you that you need to work on.

But really, you need to take a deep look at yourself and what this dream and the symbols mean to you, in order to get to the bottom of it.
