No. I think if he really wanted to hold you're hand, he'd make it very clear to you. The gesture may be just a way to reassure you-like a pat on the back.
Do NOT try to hold his...let him make the first move.

Well pretty sure it meant that he wanted to hold your hand....but im not %100 positive. Next time you guys are out, you do the same and see if he lays his hands on yours.
