writes:Ok, so it's another one of those infatuations with a teacher... I'm 15 and he's my science teacher- got to be in his 30's, but it's hard to tell. We're not particularly close, but then he's not to any of the class. Some of my close friends and I always badger him for science revision classes when a test is coming up (yes we are amazingly cool :L) and we always go. He talks to us separately, but not me in particular. I'm really quite shy, but not so much around my friends. He mostly teases my friend about being a vegetarian (nicely) etc. The problem is I'm quite awkward around people I don't know really well and even more so around people I like, so what if he can tell I like him?? I wouldn't know what to say if he asked me... yet I want to be as friendly as student and teachers can be without it being romantic. I felt so special the other day when he randomly asked me if I thought the two boys in our class were "comical" or not (these two aren't the most popular boys ever...) But i also felt really stupid because I never really came up with an answer because I was caught off guard and had no idea what he was talking about. Later on I asked my best friend what they said to make him ask me if I thought they were comical or not, and she got kind of annoyed with me as I never said "yes" or "no". Then I felt even more awkward. I'm probably reading into this way too much, but I couldn't stop asking myself why he asked me out of the whole class, and can he tell I like him? I understand completely that this is a crush and hopefully it will go away, but I just don't want him to know about it in the meantime! Am I just being paranoid when I think he knows?

reader, anonymous, writes (19 March 2010): Well, I've learned that when a teacher asks a student some random, insignificant question such as the one you mentioned, it's because the student is shy. The teacher will ask because he wants you to speak up and feel comfortable, as that is partially his job. It does not at all seem like he's found out. Many people are shy and sometimes awkward around teachers, so I can't imagine why he would think you like him. Also, don't feel stupid because you didn't answer; I've done that a lot, and I don't think teachers care too much. Hope I helped. :)P.S. I'm in a similar situation and trust me I am extremely paranoid at times!
