I'm not much of an advocate for flipping platonic to romantic-relationships; because most don't go well. Mature-folk don't usually play these games; so you may as well ask if he's getting mushy on you?

And are YOU single or married?
If he is single, then consider this, would you really want to get involved with someone you work with? What if it down the line don't work out?
The work place is not the place for romance, YOU are old enough to know that.
You also call him your best friend, maybe he is just being friendly?
