 I think Lazy Guy gave the perfect answer here- whose opinion matters here? Look, I think she just may be telling you that too much stimulation can have the opposite effect of what's intended. She may just be getting numb. Let her guide you when it comes to her pleasure; all you'll learn from other women is what pleases other women. What pleases your wife? That's the right question.

Bring her near to the point of orgasm, then stop. Mildly stimulate her but don't let her achieve release - keep her on the boil!
Slowly bring her close to the point again, but withhold satisfaction, allow a refractory period and start to build again.

 I think it comes down to the individual women. For some the more foreplay, the bigger chance of a multiple orgasm.
If it works better for YOUR wife with less, then by all means do less. :)
