Does he see me as more than a friend?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I really liked a friend of mine for a while, almost three years, and I would like to see what other people think of my situation, and if I should finally make a move. He's a shy guy, and we accidentally met at our school's orientation. The first semester at school, we would constantly run into each other and had some small talk. The second semester, we bumped into each other and found a common break between the both of us. Without it being settled we would meet up on the same day, time, and place just to hang out and talk. We didn't even have each other's numbers, we just knew we were going to meet up. Then the next semester started, and the same exact thing happened. We ran into each other and from then on, throughout the semester, at the same time and place we would meet up. The next semester I wasn't able to go to school because of an accident, and via facebook he would comment me once in a while through out the semester. The semester I came back to school, we "found" each other again, and that's when I finally got the nerve to ask for his number. But the same deal was happening for this semester, we just knew where to meet up- but this time he started to skip class just to hang out, and now, only during school hours he'd text me to see if I want to hang out but we never text outside of school, nor have we hung out. He does, sometimes, keep me company at school events and we do sometimes take the train home together too. In our most recent hang out sessions we would stay in school from 5 to 9 in the evening just talking.

He seems to enjoy spending time with me and we constantly laugh when together. As I mentioned, he is a real timid guy, but he really opened up to me, and I wonder if he possibly sees me as more than a friend?

Thank you so much for your insight!

And me and him have hung out in a group before, though most of our time spent together is alone. When in a group, he isn't as dynamic as he usually is. It's very clear that he feels the most comfortable around me because in a group he tends to sit or stand next to me, and make most context geared towards me. We do some subtle flirting, such as poke fun at each other, but I am also a really awkward person so though I tried, I can't be real forward towards him, unless I know that he may feel something towards me, I can't even hug him until I know I have the approval from him.

MandiPandi agony aunt It does sound like he likes you but is shy about it. He may not know how distinguish to you his friendly feelings from his " I like ones" ones, but it seems like he is trying. Try to hang out in groups of people instead of just alone. It might help him be less shy and more open. And if you haven't already flirt with him. Like sneak up behind him and hug him, russle his hair, or even just catch his eye and smile or make a silly face.
