A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

i have been with my boyfriend just over two years we have a son together, he broke up with me 3 weeks ago then 2 days later got back together with me. he said he broke up with me because i seemed like i didnt care about him because of the countless arguments we have had, how could he think i didnt care. is that a excuse because he changed his mind. the first 3 months of our relationship i gave him means to not trust me i left him on roughly 3 occasions when i was out with him on nights out, i guess that gives him reasonable grounds not to trust me. i also went back to my friends house with one of his friends, i lied about it at the time but owned upto it months later. nothing has ever happend with another man. i dont know why i acted like this, i love my partner so much. but he has never been able to get over this (i dont think i would if it was the other way round) i dont know what to do to make him trust me, we have been ok for the last year and a half except from arguments. do you think i can ever regain his trust, and without his trust do we have a relationship?

A reader, anonymous, writes (19 May 2008):

Certain things stick with a guy, you've named at least a few that determines if he can trust you. The differences between men and women, it seems that women at least act like they don't care about certain things, this can send the wrong message to a man. When it comes to trusting a person will do the right thing for them and the relationship, glossing over something tells a man you don't care and it isn't important. Security and protection to a man is important. If he has a partner that wants to make fun of something serious to him, he will begin to loose trust in her. In other words, what he feels is that he either has a spy or a judas in his house.

When you say your going or not going to do something, then do it and mean it.
