One minute they are best of friends having weekends away together and the next minute they are falling out and he is abusive to her and doesn't speak to her for days - and then they make up again. She has since stopped seeing a lot of friends because of this guy - me included - infact they went out of their way to cut me and others out of their life so we currently don't speak - so I just wondered - do people in on off relationships last or is she just kidding herself? She probably is kidding herself. I think people who have these dysfunctional on/off/abusive relationship are usually unwilling to see the truth for what is it.
However, this is your friend, her problems, hers to deal with as SHE sees fit. As one of our resident aunties wold say :" not your circus, not your monkeys "
(basically, none of your business)
You are going to have to let her go, and let her make her own mistakes. You on the other hand need to move on too. Find other friends, live YOUR life.
