Good question! Remember that your daughter is only 8 years old? Has she started her period. I didn't have my menarche (fist menstrual period) until about a month after my 14th birthday. However, body hair, sweat, growth spurts, they all happened before that for me. That never happened to my mother or grandmother, so it just goes to show that women and girls mature at different stages and at different times. :) Don't be worried. If your daughter is a small boned, thin girl, that's natural. In addition to that last statement, I didn't start my period so early probably due to the fact that I had a minute appitite; I don't ever recall feeling hungry as a child. My mother said she gave me Pediasure because the only time I ever ate was when I 'stole' it. Like sneaking the box of Cheerios at age three. It's natural for children to do this. If it continues and she's unhealthy, get her checked out by the doc. But it's natural for a child to be a late bloomer at any weight or metabolism. Just give it time. She's only eight. Enjoy life! -Carrie

Found it! "The vagina becomes longer and the labia more pronounced as both internal and external reproductive organs and genitals grow." I found a rather informative site that you might like to read in a couple of years, to prepare yourself for her teenage years.

I didn't think I had much left to learn, but apparently you proved me wrong. Heh heh. Well, good luck with the growing girl!

Um... you might want to get her checked out, or better yet, do some research. I'm pretty sure they grow during puberty... but I never bothered to study myself 8 years ago.... this will probably bother me so I'll probably do some research tonight and come back to tell you what I've discovered...
