A female United States age 36-40, *romise writes:

Should I go back to my ex?

I broke up with my ex 6 months ago and miss him like crazy. I recently started dating my best friend of a year whom admitted he has loved me for a little under a year. My ex made and still makes me feel beautiful and weak in the knees. My new bf is sweet and responsible. I care a lot for my new bf, but I don't know if I could ever love him the way I love my ex. I was with my ex for 2 years. We even had a house together, but he wouldn't make enough changes for me. I just wanted him to spend a little more time with me really. Some times he could be manipulative and a little bit of an ass, but can't every one? I think about my ex every day, even when I am with my new bf. I broke up with my ex, because he never was home. He plays guitar in a band and works all the time. He also never really promised me a ring, or any commitement. He tells me his love should have been enough, but I am a women. I need security. My new bf wants to spend time with me and is a lot more responsible. He is allready promising me things, which my ex never did. I don't want to hurt anyone. My ex and I have been through a lot of messy stuff and our family and friends, "DO NOT" want us together. I don't only miss him, but I miss his family. They loved me so much, but they are upset with me for hurting their son. My ex recently had sex with a girl and it killed me when I found this out. My ex and I have broken up before though and I fear it will just happen agian. What do I do!? Stay with my dependable guy, or go back?

A male reader, anonymous, writes (13 September 2007):

I can see the pattern here, you have traditional values on relationships , commitment marriage etc, but you are attracted to the bad boys.

I hate to say it , but like a girlfriend of mine, you are going to find it hard to meet someone who will tick your boxes.

The problem being is you relish the excitement of the unpredicatable boyfriend, whereas the steady reliable boyfriend is lets face it boring.

My suggestion is try and find someone in the middle, there are plenty of guys who have a little bit of an edge but are also prepared to commit to the right girl.

Remember one thing, guys dont change , so dont ever think you can turn the bad boy into Mr Dependable.. it will never happen.

Frank B Kermit agony auntI think you should tell your dependable guy the truth about how you are feeling, so that he knows you are using him for security. Give him the option of leaving you. Wouldn't YOU want that if YOU were in that situation?
