Do I keep waiting for him to change, or leave now?

Question - (26 November 2007) 2 Answers - (Newest, 26 November 2007)
A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I've been with my boyfriend for 5 years. I've thought of breaking up with him for almost a year. There is always something that keeps me from doing it. I think, "He'll get it together. He'll stop being selfish." He is jobless (his own accord) and homeless (if I do this). I do love him, I just don't want the same life-style that he does.Should I wait until after Christmas? Or am I only cruel to wait?

TomWilkinson agony auntIt's really only cruel to wait from the transition from "new" to "established" relationship. 5 years is already well into "established territory, so on him, a few months will make no difference. It is however, cruel ON YOURSELF to wait. One year is a very long time to not be happy, look after number one!
