Don't ask. It puts someone on the spot.
Instead just talk to him or make it easy for him to talk to you. And, of course, provide some encouragement like saying "Hi" to Robert the next time you see him with his friend.
Now, it could be that Robert's friend likes you and has told him that he does. Or, maybe, Robert thinks you like his friend and not him. It's not clear yet.
Some encouragement and making it easy for him to approach you will let you know if he likes you *enough* to take the next step.

this guy could be shy. you have to remember its just as nerve racking for boys as it is for girls.. the whole flirting does he/she like me ect. and seems his friend is the confident one which makes it even harder for him. I obviously cant tell you wether he likes you or not but see how it goes. keep giving him lots of flirty smiles!!
