Did she try to kill her feelings for me to justify starting a new relationship?

A male United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Ok heres the breakdown. My ex gf of a year broke up with in Dec, and from what I hear started hanging out with this new guy almost within 2 weeks of breaking up with me. However we continued to talk casually throughout this time, with her even saying I "had a place in her heart". Last conversation though you could tell she was annoyed and wanted to fight about everything that went wrong in the relationship. This all came out of the blue and thought we were past this stage, she was angry, bitter and downright mean. I once lied to her about a previous person I had sex with (before I met her!) and now she was using this as her sticking point and now she realizes I'm a liar and bad person. It really hurt.

Long story short, two weeks later she made this guy her new boyfriend. My question is this, did she start this argument to justify going out with this new guy, basically her way of killing her feelings for me? What's more do you think this new relationship she has is a rebound, a sick attempt to make me angry, or well could it truly be real?
