A female United States age 30-35, *sAlek writes:

Hey everyone, well something happened over the weekend and I would like your opinions on it. My best friend and I were invited to this get together by her BF. This guy had hosted a get together last week which I went to. So we got there and we started playing some drinking games with the people that we know. Across the room I saw a guy which I thought he was cute but I decided not to even bother because he looked a bit snobby. So my best friend seemed to have read my thoughts and she said to me “that’s Mike’s brother, I think you would like him”. I told her he was cute but I was not going to go talk to him since he seemed cocky and I’m shy anyways.

Next thing I know the guy comes to the table and wants to play with us. We looked at each other a couple of times but nothing major. I had my best friend telling me to talk to him and to flirt him but I just couldn't, I am not like that. So next thing I know is that she went to Mike and asked him if his brother had a gf or if he was talking to somebody because I thought he was cute. Mike said that he wasn't dating anybody and that he was shy too, and he was going to talk to him. I wanted to kill her but I thought “well I’m not going to make a move anyways”. Next, I see Mike whispering on his ear something; I’m guessing he is telling him that I am interested in him, etc.

The rest of the night we exchanged a bit of conversation, I felt uncomfortable since he knew how I felt but I decided to not let it get to me. Hours passed and everybody started leaving. My best friend told me not to leave without his number but I just didn't have the guts to go ask for it. I said bye to him with a hug and told him that maybe we can all hang out this week. The thing is that he is here from NY on vacation and he is going back in 15 days.

As we are walking outside Mike approached me and told me “hey, I know you like my brother and I am going to make it happen. He is just shy so I am going to text his number to John (my best friends BF) and he will send it to you”. I was like okay, I thought he was going to give me the number there but I thought maybe he doesn't know it or he is just drunk. So I went home.

The next day my best friend told me that her BF text Mike to ask for the number since he didn't text him and he had not respond. I didn't talk to my best friend until the next day. She told me that they had called Mike and text him again but he never answered them. And also that her BF (John) had told her that when we were leaving the guy told him that he was talking to somebody in NY. I thought to myself, why didn't he mention that before or something. Also, his brother didn't mentioned that and when his brother told him whatever he did to his ear he could of told him, no I’m talking to somebody. I feel a bit stupid honestly and I don’t know why I feel like I just scared him away. He probably felt like I was putting my best friend and everyone up to this so he could talk to me. Maybe I should of just had the guts and talked to him to avoid all this. I don’t know, what do you guys think? Could he be lying or not?

I felt like I had to explain myself somehow so I looked for him on Facebook and wrote him a message. I don’t know, I felt like it was the right thing to do. “Hey, this is Amy from Mike’s party. I went out of my way to find you because I wanted to apologize for Friday. I don’t know, I feel like things got a little crazy with my friend, Mike and John trying to get us to talk. Maybe I should have just talked to you and all that could have been avoid lol. I just don’t want you to think that I am “crazy” and I was trying to chase you because that is so not me. Also, if I knew you were talking to someone back home, I would have turned things around. I felt like I had to clear things up and apologize whether it makes a difference or not. It was nice meeting you and I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip."

olderthandirt agony auntIf he's so socially inept you're probably better off without the headaches you'd be in for with him around your life(lesson learned= (dumb guys don't get it) Never try to teach a pig to sing..it only wastes your time and annoys the pig.

If he's going back to NY, he probably just doesn't see a point in getting to know you. Don't take it personally.
