Dating a co worker, how can it work?

Question - (29 June 2012) 1 Answers - (Newest, 30 June 2012)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My future boss and I met around work and he was always nice, friendly. We joked around bur never really had a seriou conversation so I interviewed for his department recently and got it. One night, I was getting a ride from a male co-worker and he stepped in to offer me a ride instead as he lived nearer. Nothing happened. But after that, he told me he liked me and I was a bit scared but happy he told me. We went out and we kissed...the connection was great. He told me we can make it work...one day at a time. But I get nervous thinking about it. He's not my direct boss but two places above that...I will rarely see him. How can it work?

It can't work as long as he's anywhere in your chain of command (& your supervisor's supervisor is in that chain.) Most companies have policies against it; one or both of you could lose your job if you date and someone finds out. Either give up on the idea of dating him, or transfer into another department.
