And for the question " could I date my ex's mate?" that other guy did what makes it any diffrent for you ? Go for it boy ! as for getting to know her better ask her simple things . Whats your favorite color? what do you see in your future? ( then ask if your in her future) (thats what I did :]) ask her what she intends to do like a career. stuff that is not so easy to answer but is easy and casual to ask. Ask her to go eat out with you or movies are always good. Or be creative.
