A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I was supposed to be going to London this weekend to go to a fan party of a band i like and go to a concert, but i'm not sure whether i should still go or not. My mum was supposed to be going with me at first, but now she can't go because of financial problems, and my boyfriend also isn't sure if he can go with me , because of financial problems. I'm on Jobseeker's Allowance, and i am having problems at the moment, as i'm not sure if my benefits are going to be stopped or not, or they might just be delayed. I won't find out what is happening with them for a few more weeks though. I wasn't on benefits when i booked my concert tickets for London. I haven't booked a room there yet or my train tickets, but i would book one this week if i do still go. I have a friend who lives in London, and she said she would go to the fan party and concert with me, and at first, i said i would go with her, but i received the letter about the problems with my benefits a couple of days ago,so now i might have to tell my friend that i'm not going. I'll feel really bad if i let her down. She is on Jobseeker's Allowance too though, so she would probably understand. I'm going to see the band in concert on Friday as well though, in a city that is closer to where i live, so it doesn't really matter if i don't see them in London on Sunday. The fan party is on Saturday. Also, if i did go though, i'm not sure whether to stay somewhere that's near to where the concert and fan party is, or stay near my friend, but my friend lives in a different part of London, and it isn't close to where the fan party and concert would be. Do you think it's a waste of money to see the band twice though, in the same weekend ?. I would have seen a lot of my friends at the fan party and concert though, and i don't get to see them very often. There is a fan party for this band every year though in London. It's just that the one that is taking place this year will be a bit different. The weather has been awful here lately though too, so maybe i should go to London in the summer, when the weather could be better ?. There is another event that i'd like to go to in July, which is a convention where you can meet actors from film and tv, and there will be some actors there that i haven't met before. What do you think i should do ?.

Honeypie agony auntI think if you are financially (potentially) in the toilet, spending money on something you really don't NEED (like tickets) is not exactly smart. Both your mom and BF have already decided that they can't afford it.

Honestly (and not to sound mean) maybe it's time to try and find a job and get off Jobseeker's Allowance? As far as I know you have to be actively seeking jobs to get the Jobseeker's Allowance benefits, but what I don't know if there is a time limit as to how long you can be on Jobseeker's Allowance?

I'm not saying that people on Jobseeker's Allowance can't have fun and go to events, but.... there are things that might have a way higher priority then going to events/concerts.

I would stay put and save up for events in the future.
