Condom isn't working properly?

Question - (15 April 2010) 3 Answers - (Newest, 15 April 2010)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend and I use a condom every time that we have sex, but there is always secretion at the base of the penis that looks like semen. i have looked it up online and some people have said that it is just white vaginal fluid, but it is identical to semen, and i have never had anything come out that looks like that before. it has only been happening in the last couple of months, and i am on birth control, but i was just wondering if anybody knows what the reason is for this? is it just fluid from me? or is it coming from him and the condom isn't working properly? we are using the same types of condom and we haven't had a problem with this before, does anyone know what the reason is? has this happened to anyone else?

If the type of condom you are using is lubricated or has spermicide, that could be what it is. Lube tends to turn white after a while... it could be fluid, it could be sperm. Probably not sperm though. Is the condom too big for him? Maybe the seminal fluid is leaking out because the condom isn't tight enough.

Whatever it is, you are on b/c, so unless there is a threat of STIs you will be ok. I was gonna warn you that condoms don't always work (We secretely call our daughter our lifestyle's baby for a reason), but you are on b/c, which is so smart!

Those people are right, it's only vaginal fluid and it appears different because it's a collection of it..
