Christmas alone...

Question - (19 November 2009) 4 Answers - (Newest, 2 December 2009)
A female United Kingdom age , anonymous writes:

I have no family and all my friends have their own lives/families at Christmas. Can anyone recommend ideas how to spend christmas without having to spend a fortune on hotels?

One would think there must be lots of other people alone at Christmas who would like to join up and share costs?

Hi Joyce,

I sympathize with you 100%. I will be spending my 4th Festive Season totally alone in this World. No family or friends. Trying to find something to do over the period in my area has been impossible. I am in ill health so cannot volunteer and money is very tight. In addition I am still trying to get over the hurt of spending my birthday last week without a single card, not seeing anyone and no one to talk to even on the telephone on the day.

Christmas is only one special time of the year that hits home to those who are lonely the whole year round.

There are apparently 1.7 million older males in the UK in the same position. The figures for females tend to be a lot smaller as Ladies tend to have at least one close girlfriend or children they can turn to.

Male aged 61 living in West Wiltshire.

try meetup.com and create your own group for lonely people on x-mas around your area. That way you can meet others and you won't be alone for the holidays! good luck!

DrPsych agony auntWhy not volunteer to do some charity work over Christmas...the homeless shelters run loads of programmes for needy people at that time of year and are usually glad of help (you can often get free perks for your effort like christmas lunch and a party atmosphere).
