writes: I was talking to a male friend about being practical in things like diy and jokingly said that in my next life I would marry someone practical like my dad. His reply was.....lol we all have our thing not found mine yet (laughing emoji).I didn't quite get it and asked him what he meant but he has not replied yet. Can anyone advise me what he was trying to say. Sorry for sounding dim about it.

Humorously saying, you've got life and an ideal mate figured-out; and he's still figuring-out who he is. Not implying anything romantic; just speaking rhetorically.

I don't think his statement has any emotional undertone or anything like that if you are looking for one. I think he was just being sarcastic in response to what you have said. i.e you want someone like your dad.
