sorry but i dont understand where people are gettin there information from, once you have genital warts you can get rid of them, but you will NEVER get rid of the virus that causes them. It is said if you dont hav an outbreak of warts after 3 months of gettin rid of them then you will probably never have another outbreak, if you dont have any after two years then your body has found a WAY to cope with the virus, but there is no way to get RID of the virus. And yes you can pass them on if you use protection, its said that 80% of the population have the HPV virus and alot of them arent aware of this as generally they warts are the only sign of it!!!!

Its not just "if the wart touches you", one can carry the virus in their skin, dormant, supressed, and it can still pass infection.
I'm afraid to say it's never safe to have sex with somebody who has had HPV less than a year ago (for females, pap test is OK for at least a full year, and for men... No test available yet!), and then still, there's a chance of spreading it.
More than 75% of all men and women will get HPV at one point: Its similar to cold sores- Once you have them, you'll keep getting them for some time, they can crop up randomly (HPV though, can be fully supressed at some point) and if you've had it, it can spread to people even when you dont show symptoms.

Unfortunately, yes. As of today, there's no way to protect yourself from human papilloma virus. I read that most people will get infected at some point in life. Usually the infection goes away without your noticing that anything happened at all. Only when you can't deal with the virus do you get the warts.
If he has the warts, he has to know. Unfortunately, if you don't have any symptoms, as is usually the case, you can't know whether you have the disease or not.
I think HPV is one of the chances you have to take in life.
