Question - (9 February 2008) 2 Answers - (Newest, 9 February 2008)
A female Australia age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend and I had been dating months before he said he loved me. I reciprocated as I have strong feelings for him. Someone asked me once though how come I loved him and I couldn't really tell them. I started thinking about how you tell if it's love. I thought if you loved someone you would know it for sure.. Then one or two months later I became so certain that I loved my boyrfriend after he asked me how I could possibly be sure and I could list all the reasons easily.

I can be myself around him, we laugh alot, enjoy eachother's company and see eachother daily without getting sick of one another. He is my first relationship and he can't see how I can know it's love without comparisons while he in contrast has had more relationships than me. He has said he really likes me more than he's ever liked anyone else so he thinks it must be love but still wonders how you know for sure. I'm at the stage where i feel sure yet he isn't. Can you be in love and not know? Or is it not love?

Laura1318 agony auntLove is a mysterious force. Some are in love even when they have not met their partners. While some are in love and yet do not feel it.

They love you alright but it is not that kind of romantic love. The reality has not sunk into their hearts.

You can be in love and not realize it until one day when you pine for the other.

A reader, anonymous, writes (9 February 2008):

I think it's not difficult to tell if you love someone. You don't need past relationships to compare to, or anything like that, you just know. You feel like they're the only one, and you wouldn't dream of being with anyone else. You want to be with them all the time, and care about them a lot, no matter what they do. Obviously, being in love doesn't mean you're not human or anything, you can still argue with the person you love, but in the end, you always end up back together.

Love is different for everyone, so don't feel obliged to feel all these powerful emmotions. They don't necessarily have to come right away, they build with time. Try not to worry if you don't feel you love him this much, if you've only been dating a few months then often it takes a longer time to be sure you love someone.

I hope everything goes well for you :]
