out of genuine curiosity.

my first time having sex with my boyfriend and we been together just over 9 months. we are long distance relationship but live only like 20 miles. we had our ups and our downs but we love each other nonetheless.

he very understanding when it comes to having sex, says that he'll wait till i am ready for it all. but my biggest fear is getting pregnant.

i am wondering, if you use condom when having sex and decide to take the morning after pill will it be strong enough to protect against STDs and pregnancy?

he is experienced whereas i compared have never done it and am too afraid to ask him about contracteption much cause i dont want him to feel like its all i want from all the thinking i have put in. i really do love him a great deal lots.

LazyGuy agony auntMorning after pill should really only be used if you got no choice. It is not meant to be taken as a precaution, more as an emergency fix if the precaution failed.

Better to go on the pill.

And condoms are the only protection against STD's.

A male reader, CaringGuy United Kingdom +, writes (31 December 2009):

Condoms make a huge difference in stopping both pregnancy and STD's, since they block the sperm and infections. The morning after pill can only help with pregnancy and cannot help with STD's. There is also the contraceptive pill, which is taken by women throughout the month and again can only help prevent pregnancy. The best combination is for you to use the contraceptive pill, and to use condoms. Then you will be protected against pregnancy and most STD's, though there is always a slim chance they won't work. But if you're careful, you'll be fine. You live in Britain, so you can see the doctor for free with complete confidence and they will be able to offer you the best advice.
