I used to have to do things a certain number of times e.g. switch a light on and off a certain amount of times because i was sure that if i didn't something bad would happen to other people. I know i probably sound like a weirdo but that's how i was. I grew out of it or so i thought. I'm now in my early 20's and recently i was used and hurt by a guy very badly. Ever since that happened these symptoms seem to be creeping back. Could that be the reason? Reply to this Question Share |

For some people the compulsive behaviour of OCD is in itself a coping mechanism, with stress being a major trigger. To get over it you'll have to confront the fear that something bad might happen if you don't do a certain thing. Fight the compulsion, let the stress escalate and sit through it. Eventually it'll die back down and you'll see everything is fine. The key to getting over OCD is to convince your subconscious mind of what you logically already know.
