The best word I can think of to describe it it 'stretching'... Have you ever opened your mough really really wide, so much that it stung? It's a bit like that.
On a scale of one to ten though, I'd only rate it as maybe a five, or a six at the VERY most.
If you are terrified, it will hurt more, because you will tense up. So make sure you are comfortable doing it, make sure you are well lubricated (both naturally and with over-the-counter lube), and really just concentrate on relaxing.

Relax and tell him to go slow and you will be fine. Enjoy!

The First time for me it wasnt as painful as i thought of course i was like you scared. But everyone is different. The best tip is DONT be nervous loosen yourself because when your nervous your vagina will be tighten and that can cause pain and USE Lubricant if your not wet because It can help make it easier to enter without hurting you as much. The pain is like...hmm...how do i say i. For me it felt like a VERY little sting and sore then it went away. Tell him to caress you foreplay stimulate you before doing anything because that will help relax your body therefore it will relax your body muscles loosening the muscles in your vagina. Some girls feel burning and sting because they were not lubricated enough skin to skin raw hurts! If you have a hymen it might sting because it is getting teared but of course its not as painful as everyone thought .So use some lubricant and RELAX dont be scared!=]

Luckily the guy I was with understood and took it easy... He kissed me all the way through to take away from the pain.
I don't think there's anything I can really compare it with. It wasn't a sore as getting my tattoo, if that helps. :)
Just make sure there's lots of foreplay and that you're as relaxed as you'll ever be and it should be less painful.
