reader, anonymous, writes (5 December 2007): Not without complete honesty to restore your trust, and although you want to believe him, someone who claims they can't remember whether they cheated in the midst of a multi-year relationship is simply lying. I'm afraid it's far more likely they can't remember which time you're talking about and have resorted to a cover-all lie to keep from having to lie about specific occasions--he's sticking with the big lie to keep from being caught lying about details.
