I went to the office im working in today and discovered that the people who are starting tomorrow with me are at least 15/20 years older... im quite intimidated as this is my first serious job and im only 18.... these women who are starting were all very chatty together for people who have just met and I am afraid there may be a bit of elitism towards me when we start.I'm very shy, but when i get talking, i tell people way too much about myself because the normality of my life is extremely hectic....when people ask how I am, or whats new... i don't lie! I believe it turned people off me in my previous place of employment.I really dont want to screw this one up, its an important job.does anyone have tips on how to be chatty and friendly without talking about myself too much? i don't want my personal problems to get in the way of my ability to work. How do i deal with co-workers who dont respect me due to my age? Please help. It's a new country too... I just need some adive

First off How are you? is just a way to say hi and sadly most people do not really care how you are. Its more of a common way to say hi and be polite. Second keep your problems out of work environment because you dont want rumors started that cause you to quit you job.
You do want to be friendly with your co-workers or you will hate your job so start slow and let them see that you are just a motivated and just as mature. It will start slowly but soon you might find yourself with older friends. I hated my job but my favorite coworker was almost 70 and I'm only 18. We had more in common than we thought and she was a very caring woman.
You'll meet who you are ment to. Just start out polite and see if it turns into friendly but remember keep you private life private. Remember how nasty high school could get sadly it can get that nasty at work too.
I really hope that helps!
