writes: Before I start, can I please ask not to have a load of scientific cobblers about willpower not existing.I am 14, and I have always been paranoid about my weight, and according to BMI tests, I am not overweight, but almost in danger of becoming so. I do NOT have a lot of sugar/salt etc compared to a lot of people my age, whereas they are all underweight, and I am fat. I won't lie by saying I have a lot of exercise - usually twice haf hour strenuous I suppose. My friends, again, live on computers and have no more exercise than myself but still tease me about my weight. I believe it must be down to exercise and that whenever I burn a bit off, I put it back on. Then I feel guilty and finally decide to go on dearcupid and ask for help... I have tried diets, but I have not enough willpower to keep them going... I hate it...Are there any effective ways of getting myself to hold back from indulging the sweet chocolatly temptations we all crave? Thanks for reading,Mark

reader, anonymous, writes (27 December 2007): hi mark, i recommend not dieting! by cutting out certain foods you just crave them more. So instead reduce the amount of calories you intake through all the food groups. Simple things like using semi-skimmed instead of full milk can make a difference. Your body needs 2000 calories a day, if you want to loose weight either loose 500 calories a day by not eating them or burning them of in the gym. Also remember that muscle weighs more than fat so if your using free weights etc although you'll slim down you may weigh more on the scales. This is why the BMI is unreliable, I am a military nurse and i work with very fit infantry soilders all of whom are overweight according to the BMI scale. Not a single one of them is fat. hope this helps x
