A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Ok, I have a problem!! I am in a long distances relationship. and I only get 2 see him like every 2 or 3 weeks maybe longer! We don't have sex every time we see each other, but most of the time we do! We use condoms EVERY TIME! But, I wanna go on the pill! He dosen't see a point on going on it, if we are only having sex every 3 or so weeks!! But, I still wanna go on it.

So with that in mind, I got a question! Is it safe to go on and off the pill? Can I start taking it 2 or 3 days before I see him, and then stop after I'm done visiting?

I really need help on this one! I don't know what 2 do!:/ What should I do? Please help!

No you cant. For the pill to be effective in protecting you from pregnancy, you have to take it every day and not miss any pills. So, I think you have to either commit yoourself to taking ti everyday (at the same time each day too) or not take it at all.

Also, when you first start taking the pill, it can take 7 to 14 days before it will actually work. So they advise you dont have sex or you atleast use a condom still until its been 14 days that you have taken it.

Probably best that you go see your doctor, as he/she will explain it all.

cd206 agony auntNo you can't. If you don't take the pill regularly it won't work and the first time you take it, it can take up to a month to start working properly.

The pill is amazing in lots of different ways but it can also have side effects that are different for everyone and in my opinion thats what's making your boyfriend think it isn't the right choice for you. These can include acne, weight gain and even blood clots in rare circumstances.

Also, even though Im sure you're in a loving secure relationsip, the pill doesnt protect against STIs and that would be a worry to me if I didn't get to see my boyfriend regularly.

Hope all this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.
