Report the posts:
Tap in the top right of the post, tap 'Report/ Mark as Spam'., tap 'File Report'.
After doing that with every post about you, I would deactivate Facebook for a while - as long as it takes for you to get to the point where you don't care what he posts, or to the point where he tires of posting nasty things.
I don't think the police can do much if it's "horrible" things rather than slander/ defamation.

Then at least you can tell him the first incident report has been filed in case of further harasment. Maybe enough to shut him up. Maybe not. It doesn't really mean anything in reality

You can contact Facebook and they CAN (not saying they WILL) remove said posts.. Unless he THREATEN your life, I don't think the Police can or will do anything about Facebook. They will more likely roll their eyes and ask you to stop wasting their time.
Since you haven't mentioned what horrible things he is posting I don't know if you have anything to build a case of slander/defamation.

To prove that defamation has occurred, you would have to first prove that the statement was indeed false. Next, you have to show that the statement harmed you. Then, you have to prove that the person making the statement did not ensure that it was true. If you are well-known, you may have prove that the statement was made with actual malice. This means, it must have been made with disregard for the truth, and with the intention of doing harm to you.
