In general, birth control pills do not make you infertile. Intrauterine devices can sometimes affect conception, though, but those generally aren't used in women unless they already have children.
The pill can make you gain weight, but usually no more than five pounds. It is a result of added hormones to your body.
Yes, birth control can have some serious side effects, including a higher risk of blood clots, particularly if you smoke. Less serious side effects are nausea, fatigue, and maybe less sex drive.
You should talk to your doctor if you think you might want to start taking a method of birth control. He or she can explain the possible side effects and help find one right for you.

It does have a very messy affect on the gut lining which can affect your homones and overall balance, especially if you are a bit sensitive. It does not mean your life is over if you decide not to go on it though and there are safe practices for your life ahead. You are a bit young to have to worry about that right now though, if you haven't all ready, you could perhaps bear in mind 'sex' is not love and that it does complicate things to have sex alone without a the right loving relationship, so it can be good to plan for having the right relationship before worrying too much about contraception. Most guys aren't quite ready for a mature relationship until at least in the 20's and you have to find the right one first, right!
