There is no defense. Even if she lied about her age and even if she admits this in court, it was STILL the guy's responsibility not to have been fooled.

uh yeah probably i mean it would be different if the girl was 18 well no but ussaly depends where you are so if thats you you should probably get look at some lawas in different states or ask people who have been there before and ask them the age of like what you said. hope dis helps

It could be classed as rape if it was the girl who reported him because she is underage.

Yes.
I believe the minimal age of sexual consent in the USA is 16 in most (34) states. South Carolina's law is 14 for females and 16 for males. It is 18 in some states. So unless the female lives in South Carolina, the male COULD get in trouble only IF someone reported him.
