Herpes simplex type 1 causes cold sores on the face. It can be transferred to other places as it is highly infectious when you have a breakout. If your partner kisses you then he could get herpes simplex in his system, and then in the future he might give you sores on your body. Herpes simplex type 2 is the main cause of genital herpes, which is different from type 1. However in both instances, it is wise to avoid any sexual contact at times of an outbreak because it can make someone feel quite ill if they are infected.
