Hi there,There are a few conditions and qualifications to the answer to this question. If you're above the age of majority, then there's no impediment to dating a former teacher, if that person wants to go out with you. If you're under 18, it's obviously a different matter. The main issue is the morality of an adult going out with a minor and someone on whom he/she has had a significant influence. There's an imbalance of power in teacher-student dating and it's seen as immoral by most people, as it's assumed that there was some sort of unconscious coercion involved.In general terms, your cousin is right that it "isn't illegal", but I think it would still tend to be frowned on by most members of the community.Hope this clarifies it for you.
