I went off it for a while when I was single again (having no sexual contact during that time) and have started taking it again now that I have another partner. Now I've had a break through bleed about 7 days into taking it and it has lasted for about 2 so far, what is the normal time this is supposed to last? Also, for the past day it has been slightly painful while I've been to the toilet. I've been using condoms with my partner as well as the pill and have no idea why this is happening as the only reason I can think of is an STD.

We can't possibly diagnose your symptoms or your problems with the pill.
Make an appointment with the doctor who gave you the prescription for the pill. There are many reasons this could be happening and we can't examine you accross a computer screen, jeez!

What pill are you taking? If I were you, even though you're not having sex often keep taking the pill, because then you probably would not have the breakthrough bleeding. I had breakthough bleeding on Tri-Sprintec, and Junel when I was on active pills and it lasted for 7 days. Then I switched to Yaz, I have not had any problems with it, I've bled on the sugar pills and my period is much lighter too.
I really doubt you have an STD you're just having a period on your active pills. You need to tell your doctor this, so they can try another pill.
