Boyfriend invited girl he used to crush on to his holiday house and now the trip is ruined for me

Question - (28 March 2011) 2 Answers - (Newest, 29 March 2011)
A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend has decided that in the Summer, he wants to take me and some friends to his holiday house. This sounded great to me and I couldn't wait for it. He has now invited a girl he used to fancy (and who, in all honesty, I feel I was 2nd best to when we first started to go out). I have told him that I have a huge problem with this because of previous trust issues due to him flirting with other girls during our relationship. I feel like he could quite easily cheat on me whilst on holiday if I left the room. He has officially invited her despite the distress I have expressed to him. He said it's an opportunity for him to show me that he's changed and that I could trust him now.. But I'm just really upset about it and I don't want to go on the holiday at all now.. My boyfriend's Mum has forbidden us from sharing a room together, and as the other two girls are best friends (I barely know them) I feel completely excluded and will have to stay in a room by myself. I feel like he could sneek into her room at night and betray me. What should I do? He just keeps saying he won't do anything but wants to prove to me he's different.. But I just don't trust him!

Really, he said that? Ask him "What kind of fool do you take me for?" Then dump him.

You are not wrong to feel distressed by this situation, and the fact that he invited her after you voiced your distress, shows what an @$$hole he is.

Wait a sec. You are 18. Why in the blue hell are you concerned at all for the orders of his mother?

She has little legal right to order him to DO ANYTHING now. The second you both turned 16 you could legally share a room, a bed, or even a sexual experience with each other and there is nothing either of your parents could do about it.

So share a room. F*ck what your or his parents say. You are adults now.

Start acting like it.
