If she had just come off her period, it is completely possible that you were just seeing traces of the final period. How much blood was it? Was it pinkish or bright red?
If you were seeing bright blood and enough that it was highly noticeable, it is possible that you did inadvertantly tear her skin with the friction caused by your fingers. The skin of the vagina is very thin and if you were being quite rigorous without enough lubrication, it is not unusual to incur some small tears and cuts.
Should this be the case, the problem will clear up quite quickly. The area is fast healing and she should be without discomfort within a couple of days. In the future, it might be a good idea to add a bit of lube to your activities.
However, if she is still experiencing discomfort more than two days after, or if you see blood again, she should take a quick visit to her doctor. It is less likely, but some STDs and other health problems can show up with bleeding during intercourse. Most likely it was just small tears, but always better safe than sorry. Best of luck to you both.
