reader, anonymous, writes (26 July 2008): When blood dries it looks black. Try bathing during/ after your period instead of showering. Hopefully, that should remove any 'residue'.

Black... this isn't a healthy sign especially for a girl of your age. You should consult your doctor. Blood should not be black. This has happened to me before but only after the birth of my daughter and after a miscarriage. I would definitely ask your doctor.

I do not believe this is normal, you should tell your mother, and see a doctor. I think brown dischargeindicates "old blood". I pretty sure it means it has lost its hemoglobin, which indicates that it is old. I's oxgen carrying compound of red blood cells.
