A male reader, anonymous, writes (25 January 2009):

The first thing to do is talk to a lawyer and have the courts order a DNA test. She will have to comply or she's breaking court order and the courts don't like that.

This is so that your identity as the child's father can be proven as there is like a one in a billion chance that the DNA test would be wrong.

Once that is done you can go for joint custody and as long as you aren't doing drugs or any criminal activities or have a criminal history, then I don't see why it wouldn't be granted even though courts mostly favour the mother in such court cases.

Question, why is your name not in the birth certificate anyway? That should have been one of the first tings you even thought of doing when the baby was born. That was a dumb mistake on your part and you are paying the price for that now, eh?

I hope things work out for you. So get yourself a lawyer and get yourself going.
