He asked his sister in front of me what she got their mom and then made suggestions for us on what to get her. And she even suggested us going in together on something.
It turned out fine. We did end up going in on a gift.

I think you should just accept it, as old habits are difficult to change.
He may not be aware of your feelings as most guys cannot see from your perspective. You could give your suggestions to him and let him decide .This should not be an issue.

I think he probably went with his sister because he and his sister will know more about what their parents will like. I don't think it's anything to worry about.
