I don't have many friends so I thought I should work on that. The thing is, i noticed that while girls are fine with me, everytime I try to converse more with guys, they soon think I'm in love with them and thus start avoiding me. If i make no attempt to talk to them, they would practically ignore me.What should/can I do about this??

Keep trying. I have had the same thing happen to me, either they think I am in love with them or they fall in love with me. Me and guys just aren't meant to be friends only I guess. Anyway, it happens with some people. Just keep being nice and try to talk to them, and if they start to ignore you or think you are in love then it is they who are conceited. And eventually you will come across someone who isn't conceited and will be fine with being your friend.

You are probably very pretty and, they are shy, continue to speak breifly and move on. Once they see you act the same way with others they'll chill out.

How do you know that they think you are in love with them? Do they tell you that themselves or is it just your opinion? I really don't understand what you could be saying in order for a guy to think that. Maybe it is because you are coming across as shy and nervous and they think that it is them that is making you feel like this.
You need to look at what it is that could be making them be off with you. Think on what you say to them and ask yourself are you trying to hard. Just start small by smiling and asking them how they are, act cool and confident and not like you are trying to hard. Hopefully things will change.
